Maggie Smith

I am inspired by natural landscapes.   Working from memory and photos, I create images that highlight specific aspects of the flora, fauna, and landscape around us that evoke memories of places and times.
I enjoy putting real or imagined objects from nature onto paper using the printmaking process;  layering of inks, color and shape combinations, and etching.  The printmaking process is logistically and spatially challenging, and yet very creative. After each pass of the printing plate and paper through the press there is a moment of anticipation as you wait to see how the additional colors, shapes or etching have enhanced the work in progress.
My Colorado Critter series are based on animals that you may meet as you explore our great Colorado outdoors.

The originals were created using the monotype process.
